Vintage British biscuit tin, "Hunting" c. 1930 fox hunting

$75 USDVintage British biscuit tin, "Hunting" c. 1930 fox hunting

Collectibles:Tins
Issued by MacFarlane Lang in 1930, this delightful tin is called "Hunting" and features an attractive scene in the foxhunting field. A handsome box with faux bois or simulated wood sides, accented in gilt trim, a scarlet coated huntsman leaps a hedge on his horse, foxhounds racing along with him. The image on the hinged lid has a soft look to it, looking much like an old time oil painting. Measuring 7" square and standing 2.75" tall, it's in very good vintage condition, with fairly minimal wear ...
Vintage 1930's British biscuit tin, mother and daughter with calves

$65 USDVintage 1930's British biscuit tin, mother and daughter with calves

Collectibles:Tins
One of the most popular tins I ever get, this is always such a favorite. The lift off lid has a nostalgic farm scene, a mother and her young daughter feeding two calves from a bucket in front of the farm house. Daughter holds her teddy bear while watching mother, and the two baby cows are spotted and darling. The farm house in the background has blue shutters, and matches the outbuildings, likely a barn and a storage building, all with what appear to be thatched roofs. Blooms everywhere, on the ...
Vintage 1922 horse show poster, Charles W. Holmes, little girl

$95 USDVintage 1922 horse show poster, Charles W. Holmes, little girl

Collectibles:Advertising:Horse Show Poster
One of my favorite illustrators of all times, Charles W. Holmes, did a great deal of work for fairs and horse shows, his post cards and posters for the Brockton fair are fabulous. This is a wonderful horse show poster, I'm just staggered that it survived in such terrific shape. A young girl, spotted pull toy horse under her arm, is marching off to the Delaware State Fair horse show, next to the caption "We're going." Above her head the words "This is the age to begin." Dated 1921 in the lower ...
Antique French inkwell, two horse heads, horseshoe and cap

$129 USDAntique French inkwell, two horse heads, horseshoe and cap

Antiques:Inkwell
What a special inkwell this is, with its equestrian motif. Set atop a horseshoe, two horse heads with flowing reins in a lovely Art Nouveau style. A riding cap, or perhaps even a military helmet, forms the lid for the inkwell, with its glass insert. Excellent detail to this old piece, which dates to the 1900-1910 era and a warm golden patina to the metal. You'll notice the buckles on the double reins and on the throatlatches of their bridles, this old desk top piece is beautifully done. ...
Antique English sterling silver locket, horse shoe motif

$139 USDAntique English sterling silver locket, horse shoe motif

Jewelry:Antique:Fine:Victorian
Another old locket from the Victorian era, featuring the ever popular good luck symbol of a horseshoe. This delicate piece is so expertly made, and opens to reveal the original satin lining and the original metal frames on both sides, protected with clear celluloid covers. It's hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling, the anchor for Birmingham and the maker's mark. I can't find the maker listed in my references, and while the date letter is indistinct, I believe it is the P for 1889. The ...
Fabulous large vintage horse show poster

$89 USDFabulous large vintage horse show poster

Collectibles:Advertising:Horse Show Poster
Done on heavy cardboard, this colorful horse show poster was meant to be hung in a shop window to advertise the upcoming event. Measuring 22" by 14", these old posters are so hard to find now, a reminder of times past when communities banded together to promote local shows and charity events. This one dates to the 1960's, and the central horse head is surrounded by images of horse show classes--driving horses, saddle seat, western pleasure classes, hunters and jumpers. Apparently this show to ...
Stunning graphics, vintage horse show poster, Saddlebred horse

$89 USDStunning graphics, vintage horse show poster, Saddlebred horse

Collectibles:Advertising:Horse Show Poster
Superb graphics on this old horse show poster, which is done on heavy cardboard. Dating to the 1960's, it shows a stunning American Saddlebred horse going at the trot. Measuring 22" by 14", these were designed for local shops and businesses to advertise the event, this show a benefit for the Butterfield Boy's Ranch. These could be hung in a store window, and this one has an easel back, so that it stands on its own. Some wear to the edges, a bit off loss to the horse's tail, but it's in very good ...
Set of five framed antique trade cards "The wicked horse" c. 1885

$165 USDSet of five framed antique trade cards "The wicked horse" c. 1885

Antiques:Framed Artwork
An exceptional set of five framed trade cards from 1885, these depict the evil riding horse in all his glory. From scaring pigs to attacking other horses to racing back to his stable, with his rider, this is a delightful portrayal of a horse gone wrong, the horse from hell! I bought this set of cards years ago, and had them matted and framed for my husband's office. As a horse trainer, I felt these wonderful depictions would ring some bells with him! My poor photographs don't do this justice, ...
Antique biscuit tin, colorful parrots, macaw and parakeets

$95 USDAntique biscuit tin, colorful parrots, macaw and parakeets

Collectibles:Tins
This old biscuit tin dates to the 1910 era, and features brilliant parrots, or scarlet macaws and parakeets on all four sides and the lid. The front and back have single birds, while the two sides show a pair of parakeets cuddled together on a branch. The lid has an image of another beautifully plumed bird looking over his shoulder amid tropical foliage. The lid is hinged, and it has a nicely shaped and engraved handle, with a locking mechanism, although the key is long gone. The tin measures 6 ...
Vintage English Horner toffee tin, Santa Claus, Christmas

$48 USDVintage English Horner toffee tin, Santa Claus, Christmas

Collectibles:Tins
Here comes Santa, or Father Christmas as he is known in Britain, down the roof with a sack full of toys. He's got a horse, a ball, a toy soldier and several balloons in his bag, for good boys and girls. Snow is drifting down around him, and you can see fir trees in the background. There is general, overall oxidation to this tin, but I couldn't resist it, since it is one of the harder Santa tins to find. Measuring 5.5" by 4.25" and standing 1.25 inches tall, it's a charming old holiday tin from ...
Vintage 1940's Lang sterling silver swan with crown pin or brooch

$39 USDVintage 1940's Lang sterling silver swan with crown pin or brooch

Jewelry:Vintage:Silver, Sterling
She's elegant, with just a touch of the adorable, a queen of a swan done in sterling silver by Lang. She's actually the logo of the Lang Sterling Company, and she dates to the late 1940's or early 50's. Her long, graceful neck leads to a body that is three dimensional, with her two wings formed and attached to her body, her paddling feet trail out below. In excellent condition, she measures 1.75" from the top of her crown to her feet, and about 1" across at her body. This regal beauty will come ...
Vintage Lang sterling silver race horse and jockey pin, 1950's

$42 USDVintage Lang sterling silver race horse and jockey pin, 1950's

Jewelry:Vintage:Silver, Sterling
Another outstanding piece from the Lang Sterling Company, this is a dynamic race horse flying along with his jockey in the saddle. So detailed, you can see the tendons in his legs, the jockey's face, it's typical of the Lang excellence. Tail flying, head up, ears back listening to his rider, the horse shows beautiful musculature and action. Measuring a bit over 2.25" across and a little over 1.5" tall, it's in excellent condition, and one of the more difficult Lang pins to find. A superb old ...
REDUCED Vintage English biscuit tin, horse and coaching scenes

$19 USD ReducedREDUCED Vintage English biscuit tin, horse and coaching scenes

Collectibles:Tins
A colorful tin from the British firm of McVitie's, this tin likely dates to the early 1950's and held 1.5 pounds of family assorted biscuits. The hinged lid shows a busy street scene outside The George Inn with passengers embarking on the York to London stagecoach. A team of four horses waits to depart, with the three bays standing patiently while the gray horse paws impatiently, ready to be off. The sides of the tin are decorated with coaching and carriage scenes as well, with two of the sides ...
Antique bridle rosette pin or brooch, jumping horse

$46 USDAntique bridle rosette pin or brooch, jumping horse

Jewelry:Vintage
Another attractive bridle rosette that has been transformed into a fabulous piece of jewelry, this one features a horse and his rider taking a fence. Perhaps they are out foxhunting, or perhaps it is a scene from a long ago horse show. The domed glass is in excellent shape, the rosette has a brass bezel and back to which a pin was added some time ago. Measuring 1.75" in diameter, the magnification from the camera gives a crackled look in spots, which don't show in real life. And do please ...
Vintage English toffee tin, Father Christmas, Santa Claus

$59 USDVintage English toffee tin, Father Christmas, Santa Claus

Collectibles:Tins
Another delightful old tin for the holiday season, this one dating to the 1950's, and featuring a rosy cheeked Santa Claus with a bag of toys slung over his shoulder. Father Christmas has a long white beard and holds a Christmas tree in one hand. The toys in his sack include a stuffed bunny and a teddy bear, along with a toy drum and a horn, all peeping out the top. Brilliant colors on this tin, which is in very good condition for its age, with a lift off lid. Octagonal in shape, it measures ...
Vintage brass boot scraper, horses

$64 USDVintage brass boot scraper, horses

Collectibles:Boot Scraper
A very decorative old boot scrape, this one two horses at each end, with the blade between them. The horses are quite stylized and the scrape gives the impression of being a ribbon they are holding between them. The brass is mellow but tarnished in spots, as you can see, it's obviously been used in its time. Two holes beneath each horse, so it can be easily attached to whatever you might wish as a base. Tail to tail, it's 11.75", the blade is about 5", and it stands 4" tall. Quite useful for its ...
Antique 1887 sterling silver pin or brooch, unicorn in a horseshoe

$78 USDAntique 1887 sterling silver pin or brooch, unicorn in a horseshoe

Jewelry:Antique:Fine:Victorian
At first, I thought this was a horse, but on closer inspection, I realized it was a unicorn, how fabulous! A long wavy mane, exotic head and single horn between his ears, our mystical unicorn is lovely! He is set inside a horseshoe, complete with nails and toe clip. Fully hallmarked, this unusual brooch has the lion passant for sterling, the marks for Chester, the date letter for 1887 and the makers mark H&N for Hollis and Newman. Measuring 1.25" from top to bottom, a bit over 1" wide, it has a ...
Vintage sterling silver key chain, horseshoe and terrier dog

$47 USDVintage sterling silver key chain, horseshoe and terrier dog

Collectibles:Key Fob
I've had this little sterling charmer for quite a while, with just a sketchy idea of what it might be, a fob of some sort, I thought. Now I've come across another, described as a Victorian keychain, and I see how it works. You slip the horse shoe part through your key, and hey presto, you've got a delightful old way to manage your keys! While I'm not going to say it is Victorian, it's certainly got good age to it, and it is beautifully done. The dog is a Terrier, most likely an Airedale, ...
Vintage 1920's Canco BeauteBox tin, Santa's helper, Henry Clive

$65 USDVintage 1920's Canco BeauteBox tin, Santa's helper, Henry Clive

Collectibles:Tins
Such a fun old tin, dating to the 1920's, a Canco BeauteBox tin with a Henry Clive illustration of Mae Murray as Santa's helper. Murray was a silent film star and Henry Clive was one of the most notable artists of his day. This tin is the more uncommon rectangular shape, rather than the round tin, also difficult to find. Blond curls peeping out from under her fur trimmed hat, Mae has sultry blue eyes and shapely red lips. The tin has a hinged lid, and the Canco BeauteBox logo on the base, along ...
Antique 1886 British rowing trophy, Trial Eights

$155 USDAntique 1886 British rowing trophy, Trial Eights

Antiques:Trophies
What a fabulous find, an English rowing trophy dating to 1886 from Emmanuel College in Cambridge. This large and stunning pewter cup was presented for Trial Eights and is beautifully engraved on both front and back. The handles are elaborate, the bottom is glass and the trophy has quite a few marks to the base, I've shown pictures of a few. L&F Cole, Cambridge is one mark, there is a bugle, the letters TW and the number 482. Standing 7" tall, it's 9" across at the handles, the base 4.75" in ...
Vintage English sterling silver horse show trophy, best child's pony

$95 USDVintage English sterling silver horse show trophy, best child's pony

Collectibles:Trophies
Another of the wonderful old trophies I've just purchased, this is English and was presented at the Minety Show in 1949 for the Best Child's Pony. The silver cup is fully hallmarked, with the lion passant for sterling, the anchor for Birmingham, the date letter for 1942 and the maker's mark for Colbourne, Ltd. of Fore Street in Wiltshire. Attached to an ebonized wooden stand, it is 5.5" tall, with the opening at the top 2.25" in diameter, the base a bit over 2.5" in diameter. It's in lovely ...
Johnson Brothers teapot "Coaching Scenes" brown transferware

$140 USDJohnson Brothers teapot "Coaching Scenes" brown transferware

Pottery:Tea Pot
Another scarce and hard to find Johnson Brothers piece from my personal collection, this is a teapot in their "Coaching Scenes" pattern. While the blue "Coaching Scenes" pattern is readily available, the brown is rarely seen, especially in this country. Later renditions of this pattern, in the other colors, also had "Hunting Country" marked on the base. Made in England, it shows a coach, drawn by four flying horses, galloping through a village. Elaborately decorated on lid, spout and handle, the ...
Antique cast iron boot scraper, terrier dog

$115 USDAntique cast iron boot scraper, terrier dog

Antiques:Boot Scraper
A wonderful old cast iron boot scrape, this one an Airedale Terrier. In super condition, it's solid, heavy and sturdy, weighing in at nearly four pounds, and dates to the early part of the twentieth century, c. 1900-1910. Four holes for mounting, curved upright stanchions topped with ball finials, the cross bar or blade for getting the mud off those boots. While still useful today for its original purpose, it's a fabulous decorative piece, measuring 7.25" across, 7" tall and a bit over 3.5" wide ...
Antique inkwell, stunning horse head in horseshoe

$135 USDAntique inkwell, stunning horse head in horseshoe

Antiques:Inkwell
A simply stunning old inkwell, this gorgeous metal piece features a horse head set inside a horse shoe. Exquisite detail, you can see the veins on the horse's face, his large kind eyes, even a bit of mane swirling over the horseshoe near the hinge. A pewter color, it appears to have a silvery plate or wash over brass, some of which is peeping through in spots. Heavy for its size, it stands about 3" to the tip of the ear, 5" across at the widest and 4.5" from front to back, beautifully ...
REDUCED Vintage advertising menu chalk board, Donald Duck

$84 USD ReducedREDUCED Vintage advertising menu chalk board, Donald Duck

Collectibles:Advertising:Sign
What fun to find a menu board with an image of Donald Duck! The Mexican company of Pascual Boing was started in the 1940's and adopted the nautical duck as their logo. Apparently Disney tolerated it for decades, but finally put a stop to it, so the company has a new mascot. Donald is embossed on this sign, raised from the surface, as is the word Pascual. Below is the menu board, with its chalk black board. With bright and vibrant colors, the sign has been used, with some edge wear as shown and a ...
Vintage toffee tin, kittens in a basket

$39 USDVintage toffee tin, kittens in a basket

Collectibles:Tins
A sweet image on the lid of this old toffee tin, four kittens in a basket of flowers. Look at the kitty on the end, he's asleep! Made in Australia, the tin dates to the 1950's and has charming images of cats at play all around the four sides. A good sized tin with a hinged lid, it measures 7.75" by 6" and stands 1.75" tall. There is wear to the image, I've shown a close up for you to see, but it was too cute to pass by.
Large Victorian pair of fireplace ornaments, horses in brass

$275 USDLarge Victorian pair of fireplace ornaments, horses in brass

Antiques:Accessories
A stunning pair of Victorian hearth or mantel ornaments, two large facing horses done in brass. These elegant and stately stallions wear surcingles on their backs and bridles with reins, necks arched and tails carried high. I couldn't quite capture the warmth of the brass patina on these fabulous steeds, acquired over the past 100+ years, they have a mellow glow. Weighing in at over 10 pounds for the pair, they are quite large and beautifully balanced, 9.5" to the top of the neck, the same ...
Vintage Wyandotte tin music maker, circus dogs

$44 USDVintage Wyandotte tin music maker, circus dogs

Collectibles:Toys
Such a cute old noise maker, this was made by Wyandotte from lithographed tin and features a marching dog band at the circus. The drum major leads the parade, he is a hound of some sort. He's followed by another dog pulling a cart that carries a large drum, which is being beaten by a Scottish Terrier. Following the Scotty are two more dogs, one playing a horn, the other clashing his cymbals. Circus tents with flags line the background. Turn the wood handled crank on the top, and several notes ...

Vintage British toffee tin, Golliwog with little girl and doll

$69 USDVintage British toffee tin, Golliwog with little girl and doll

An old tin from the 1930's, this was made for Riley's toffee and shows a little girl holding her dolly, with a Gollywog sitting in front of her. The child wears a bonnet with long strings, and her doll is wrapped in a blue blanket. Of course, the star of the tin is our Golly, dressed in his traditional garb. A nice shape with a lift off lid, the tin measures 5.5" by 3.5" and stands 1" tall. It has some wear, as you can see, but it's a fairly scarce tin featuring the ever popular Golliwog image.
