Vintage 1940's child's nursery pair, Wood's England, ABC

$21 USDVintage 1940's child's nursery pair, Wood's England, ABC

Pottery:Children's
A delightful duo from the British firm of Wood and Sons, an alphabet ABC nursery bowl and mug. The bowl has the most adorable little cowboy on a stick horse, wearing his woolly chaps to illustrate "Ride a cock horse to Banbury Cross." Measuring 6.5" in diameter, the outer rim has the alphabet done in a brilliant blue. The mug also has ABC on one side, with the other side showing a brilliantly colored scene of a little girl sprinkling in her garden, to illustrate "Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary." The ...
REDUCED Vintage portrait plate, lady driving a horse carriage

$27 USD ReducedREDUCED Vintage portrait plate, lady driving a horse carriage

Pottery:Portrait Plate
Dating to the early part of the last century, this wonderful old plate has an image of an elegant woman, reins and whip in hand, driving her horse carriage. As you can see, the horse in this scene is implied, but there is no doubt about what our lovely lady is doing, she's about to set off for a drive. She wears an elaborate hat, stylish fur stole, and elbow length gloves on her delicate hands. Behind her another fur and across her legs a lap robe, the very image of a an accomplished ...
Johnson Brothers teapot "Coaching Scenes" brown transferware

$140 USDJohnson Brothers teapot "Coaching Scenes" brown transferware

Pottery:Tea Pot
Another scarce and hard to find Johnson Brothers piece from my personal collection, this is a teapot in their "Coaching Scenes" pattern. While the blue "Coaching Scenes" pattern is readily available, the brown is rarely seen, especially in this country. Later renditions of this pattern, in the other colors, also had "Hunting Country" marked on the base. Made in England, it shows a coach, drawn by four flying horses, galloping through a village. Elaborately decorated on lid, spout and handle, the ...
Vintage pottery dog bowl or dog feeder

$98 USDVintage pottery dog bowl or dog feeder

Pottery:Dog Bowl
I love these old dishes or bowls that were made by various American companies for feeding the pooch in your life. They date from the 1930's to the 1950's, and they have such naive charm--there is a two page full color spread on them in the book "Living with Dogs." This feeder is done in a deep chocolate brown, a bright and shiny glaze, with raised dogs in grass all around the bowl. It tapers upward towards the heavy rim, and stands 2.75" tall, 7" in diameter at the lip, 7.5" in diameter at the ...
Vintage covered butter or cheese dish, fox hunting, horse and hound

$95 USDVintage covered butter or cheese dish, fox hunting, horse and hound

Pottery
A truly delightful covered butter or small cheese dish, made by Portland Pottery, Cobridge in England. The domed lid is charmingly decorated on all four sides, with a fox hunter on his horse taking a fence, foxhound leading the way. The back side shows a fox head and brush--his tail as it is called-set atop a long lashed hunting whip. The handle to the lid is a black hunting cap, a lovely touch. All the decoration on this sweet piece is raised from the surface, giving it a wonderful textural ...
