Here comes Santa, or Father Christmas as he is known in Britain, down the roof with a sack full of toys. He's got a horse, a ball, a toy soldier and several balloons in his bag, for good boys and girls. Snow is drifting down around him, and you can see fir trees in the background. There is general, overall oxidation to this tin, but I couldn't resist it, since it is one of the harder Santa tins to find. A colorful tin from the British firm of McVitie's, this tin likely dates to the early 1950's and held 1.5 pounds of family assorted biscuits. The hinged lid shows a busy street scene outside The George Inn with passengers embarking on the York to London stagecoach. A team of four horses waits to depart, with the three bays standing patiently while the gray horse paws impatiently, ready to be off. A sweet image on the lid of this old toffee tin, four kittens in a basket of flowers. Look at the kitty on the end, he's asleep! Made in Australia, the tin dates to the 1950's and has charming images of cats at play all around the four sides. A good sized tin with a hinged lid, it measures 7.75" by 6" and stands 1.75" tall. There is wear to the image, I've shown a close up for you to see, but it was too cute to pass by.

Such a cute old noise maker, this was made by Wyandotte from lithographed tin and features a marching dog band at the circus. The drum major leads the parade, he is a hound of some sort. He's followed by another dog pulling a cart that carries a large drum, which is being beaten by a Scottish Terrier. An old tin from the 1930's, this was made for Riley's toffee and shows a little girl holding her dolly, with a Gollywog sitting in front of her. The child wears a bonnet with long strings, and her doll is wrapped in a blue blanket. Of course, the star of the tin is our Golly, dressed in his traditional garb. A nice shape with a lift off lid, the tin measures 5.5" by 3.5" and stands 1" tall. It has some wear, as you can see, but it's a fairly scarce tin featuring the ever popular Golliwog image.

I don't find as many Greyhound things as I would like, so it was fun to find this lovely old transfer printed porcelain mug on a recent trip. Bearing an old mark on the bottom that says Germany in green, it's in wonderful condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs. A very decorative old boot scrape, this one two horses at each end, with the blade between them. The horses are quite stylized and the scrape gives the impression of being a ribbon they are holding between them. The brass is mellow but tarnished in spots, as you can see, it's obviously been used in its time. Two holes beneath each horse, so it can be easily attached to whatever you might wish as a base. A nice old piece from England, this is a large metal hanger featuring a gentleman rider on his horse. Lots of detail in this unusual item, made to hold the bridle of a horse. A strap at the top, done with a buckle in the design of a stirrup leather, leads down to a horseshoe shaped back, onto which is set a man on a horse, whip in hand. I thought that this old cast aluminum Boxer on wood truly exemplified the look of the breed. Noble, stately yet curious, with a hint of fun behind those deep set eyes and alert ears. Clean lines on this nice old piece, great detail, it is well cast and on a base of solid oak, done in relief. There is a hanger in the back, and it measures 7" in diameter. While there is no mark and no paper label, it looks very much like a Bruce Fox piece.

What fun to find a menu board with an image of Donald Duck! The Mexican company of Pascual Boing was started in the 1940's and adopted the nautical duck as their logo. A charming depiction of young cats, these kittens are having a rollicking good time. There are eleven of them, tumbling and rolling and in general enjoying themselves. It is framed in old barn wood, painted white, with just the right amount of chipping to give it that great shabby look. The size framed is 37" by 12", so a true yardlong print. This is not a particularly old one, not antique, but it has so much appeal. I do have an antique yard long of cats I will be listing soon.
