So lovely to find a pair that hasn't been separated over the years, these wonderful dogs are done in cast iron. Crouching with paws crossed, they are on an elaborate plinth with a floral design. Quite heavy for their size, weighing in at over 3 pounds, the facing pair is of a size also suitable to be bookends. The paint is chippy, as you can see, and each measures 6" by 4" by 1". An elegant pair of antique English dogs, to grace your mantel or bookshelf.
REDUCED Antique pyrography plaque, lady sidesaddle on horse

$100 USD ReducedREDUCED Antique pyrography plaque, lady sidesaddle on horse

Antiques:Pyrography
Wood burning, pyrography or poker work as it is known abroad was a popular hobby during the late Victorian era, on into the 1920's. This fabulous old pyrography piece is from England, and it depicts a woman sitting aside on her horse, taking a jump. Elegantly attired in her bowler hat and gloves, skirt flying, she holds a riding whip in her hand. Her horse is bright and alert, ears up as he lands on the other side of the fence. A deeply carved floral border adorns the outside of the plaque, ...
Antique tin tray, horses, mare and foal, Henry Stull

$215 USDAntique tin tray, horses, mare and foal, Henry Stull

Antiques:Trays
A fabulous pre prohibition tray with artwork by Henry Stull, this was made by Meek and Company of Coshocton, Ohio. Stull (1851-1913) was a noted artist who specialized in race horse portraits. Entitled "Pride of the Farm" this metal tray was produced around the turn of the last century. Meek is well known for the quality of their advertising trays, and this is one of the harder ones to find. A mare stands over her chestnut foal in a beautiful pastoral setting. You'll notice the Stull signature ...

Antiques:Equestrian Equipment
A wonderful riding crop, made for the fox hunting field, with a heavy cane shaft and an elegant stag horn handle with a large basket weave ferrule. The maker's button is marked Swaine and Company, London. Swaine became Swaine and Adeney and today, as Swaine, Adeney and Brigg, they have a royal warrant, having supplied the British monarchy for over 200 years. You won't find a better pedigree for antique equestrian equipment than that! The cane shaft or stock is quite sturdy, and has a mellow ...
Antique parlor lamp, hunting scenes, dogs and stag

$545 USDAntique parlor lamp, hunting scenes, dogs and stag

Antiques:Lamps, Lighting
Different scenes of hunting dogs adorn each side of this wonderful old oil or kerosene lamp which dates to the early 1900's. When I found it, the top globe was gone, but it was such a stunning old piece that I bought it and had it electrified by my lamp shop. Now it lights in three ways, the bottom only, which is a gorgeous night light, the top only, or both the bottom and top together. The switch, which I've shown, is a fancy key shape, another perfect touch. One side of the lamp shows two dogs ...

$115 USD ReducedREDUCED Antique lithographed tin tray, beautiful young girl

Antiques:Trays
This is a lovely old tray, dating to the turn of the last century. Lithographed tin, it features an attractive young girl with a peaches and cream complexion. Dressed in white, with a soft bow at her neck, she wears a garland of flowers, and a head piece also decorated with flowers. This is a stock tray made by one of the American advertising firms, likely Beach or Meek, who both made oval trays in this size. The number 20 at the bottom indicates the stock number. The tray has a rolled edge, ...
REDUCED Antique Grand Tour photo frame, horse shoe shape, Victorian

$125 USD ReducedREDUCED Antique Grand Tour photo frame, horse shoe shape, Victorian

Antiques:Frames
A beautiful olive wood frame, certainly a souvenir of the Grand Tour. Victorians were fond of taking world jaunts, and bringing home things to remind them of their travels. Ricordo at the top of the frame means memory or keepsake in Italian, and the military photo that is in the frame was taken in Malta, just 58 miles south of Sicily. Two inlaid swallows adorn the upper sides of the frame, which is quite elaborate and shows a horse shoe motif. I love the authenticity of the nails, they are ...
Antique framed chromolithograph, lady, horse and dogs, fox hunting

$165 USDAntique framed chromolithograph, lady, horse and dogs, fox hunting

Antiques:Framed Artwork
What a stunner this is! Surrounded by a pack of foxhounds, a gorgeous woman stands with her black horse in the field, ready for the hunt. Glorious colors on this one, with fall leaves overhead and a brilliant red on her side saddle jacket, with an indigo blue hat and skirt. In her gloved hand, a stag handled riding whip, lash coiled. In the distance, you can see another rider approaching, perhaps they are ready to head off for the fox hunt meet. A wonderfully fancy period frame surrounds the ...
Large antique lithographed tin tray, lady and horse "Good Friends"

$139 USDLarge antique lithographed tin tray, lady and horse "Good Friends"

Antiques:Trays
I love these early advertising trays, and this one is a particular favorite. Entitled Good Friends, a woman stands next to her bridled and saddled horse. She is dressed in a bowler hat, a red riding coat, stock tie at her neck and riding crop in her gloved hand. Made by Meek and Company of Coshocton, Ohio, it bears their logo, and dates to the 1900-1910 era. Showing some age and use wear, as you can see, (which is reflected in the price) it still displays nicely measuring an impressive 17.25" by ...
Large antique lithographed tin tray, horse and buggy

$100 USDLarge antique lithographed tin tray, horse and buggy

Antiques:Trays
Dating to the early 1900's, this lovely lithographed tin tray is one I've not had before. Dogwood blossoms on the rim surround a central image of a stop on the road during horse and buggy days. A sandy road winds through lush forest, a large dead tree to one side. In the middle of the road, a doctor's buggy pulled by a white or gray horse and two men in conversation. I suppose it could be anywhere, but for some reason it evokes memories of the South to me, perhaps because that is where I grew up ...
Antique bone barrel riding boot pulls, equestrian

$119 USDAntique bone barrel riding boot pulls, equestrian

Antiques:Equestrian Equipment
Another lovely pair of boot pulls, these of bone in a barrel shape. A gorgeous patina on the bone, a mellow ivory color acquired over the years. The steel shanks are 6" long, showing some surface rust, with the boot pulls overall 7" in length, the barrels 3" wide, about an inch in diameter. An English pair, and so marked, they are Victorian, from the time when everyone rode horses, so everyone needed something to help them pull on their boots. Still useful today, and they add such elegance to ...
Framed antique chromolithograph, lady and horse

$139 USDFramed antique chromolithograph, lady and horse

Antiques:Framed Artwork
As my regular clients know, I am enchanted with images of ladies and their horses, our home is full of them. I can't resist these images when I see them, and sadly, I can't keep them all. This is a beautiful framed chromolithograph, dating to c. 1900, showing a young woman reaching up to pick an apple from a tree. Perhaps she is going to offer it to her horse, who stands along side her. He is bridled, she is dressed in her long riding coat, with the velvet collar and cuffs, they've interrupted ...
Antique French faux bamboo hanging rack

$125 USDAntique French faux bamboo hanging rack

Antiques:Faux Bamboo
I love faux bamboo, and when I find a nice piece, I have SUCH a hard time not keeping it for myself. Alas, my walls are full, so I'm offering this wonderful rack here in my shop. Three pegs, done in a mushroom shape, extend out 4" from the base, the overall depth of the piece being 5". Dark accents on this piece, setting off the warm honey tones of the wood. Measuring just under 14" in length, it's large enough to make a statement, small enough to fit so many places. One corner has some old ...

$145 USDFramed German antique pewter relief, stag and doe, Black Forest

Antiques:Framed Artwork
I don't find these very often, a gorgeous antique scene from Germany, a pewter relief image of a stag and his doe. Dating to the late 1880-1900 era, these were made in the Black Forest region, and framed in that heavy, rich wood the area is noted for. The buck has a full set of antlers, he peers across the landscape in one direction, while the doe looks ahead. The piece measures 15.5" by 13" and weighs over five pounds, quite substantial and impressive. The head of the stag rises 1.5" from the ...
Antique cast iron Arabian horse fireplace or hearth ornaments

$165 USDAntique cast iron Arabian horse fireplace or hearth ornaments

Antiques:Accessories
From England, a lovely old pair of cast iron horse figures designed to adorn a Victorian hearth or mantel. Wonderful to have a true facing pair, often these have been separated over the years. Two Arabian horses with dished faces, arched necks and high set tails wear exotic saddles and bridles, a truly lovely set. They measure 9" by 3" at the base and stand about 7.5" tall to the tips of their ears. As you can see, one tilts inward a bit, but that's really only noticeable if you look at them ...
Antique framed print, lady horse and dogs, Heywood Hardy

$100 USD Offers ConsideredAntique framed print, lady horse and dogs, Heywood Hardy

Antiques:Framed Artwork
Always a popular image, this is a chromolithograph after Heywood Hardy (1842-1933) entitled "Thoroughbreds" although the title is not on this particular print. A beautiful young woman holds an apple for her equally beautiful horse, while her faithful dogs look on. Handsomely framed, the wood frame has an all over embellishment of scrolling leaves, the frame in very good condition. It has a simple card backing board and a fairly recent wire on the back for hanging, so it's ready to go! Measuring ...
Framed antique lithograph, lady, horse and St. Bernard dog

$135 USDFramed antique lithograph, lady, horse and St. Bernard dog

Antiques:Framed Artwork
Such a beautiful old lithograph here, dating to the early 1900's, and wonderfully framed as well. A young woman in a red riding habit rests her cheek on her horse's withers, while he has a drink from the water trough. At her feet, her Saint Bernard gazes at her adoringly. They've obviously been out for a morning canter, the wooded path shows an autumn scene, with the leaves changing and falling. The frame is a dark wood, with an outer rope edge accented with gold, and an inner beaded border. ...
Antique French inkwell, two horse heads, horseshoe and cap

$129 USDAntique French inkwell, two horse heads, horseshoe and cap

Antiques:Inkwell
What a special inkwell this is, with its equestrian motif. Set atop a horseshoe, two horse heads with flowing reins in a lovely Art Nouveau style. A riding cap, or perhaps even a military helmet, forms the lid for the inkwell, with its glass insert. Excellent detail to this old piece, which dates to the 1900-1910 era and a warm golden patina to the metal. You'll notice the buckles on the double reins and on the throatlatches of their bridles, this old desk top piece is beautifully done. ...
Set of five framed antique trade cards "The wicked horse" c. 1885

$165 USDSet of five framed antique trade cards "The wicked horse" c. 1885

Antiques:Framed Artwork
An exceptional set of five framed trade cards from 1885, these depict the evil riding horse in all his glory. From scaring pigs to attacking other horses to racing back to his stable, with his rider, this is a delightful portrayal of a horse gone wrong, the horse from hell! I bought this set of cards years ago, and had them matted and framed for my husband's office. As a horse trainer, I felt these wonderful depictions would ring some bells with him! My poor photographs don't do this justice, ...
Antique cast iron frame by Judd Company, Arts and Crafts

$125 USDAntique cast iron frame by Judd Company, Arts and Crafts

Antiques:Frames
Such a beautiful old picture frame, elegantly done by Judd in cast iron. While a table top frame, with an ornate stand in back, the stand folds flat so that it could be hung as well. Well made, with the attention to detail that Judd is known for, it's quite a heavy piece, weighing in at nearly two pounds, in wonderful condition for its age. You'll notice that even the small metal holders in back are present and original. As a bonus, there is a lovely little print inside, with two bridled horses ...
Antique inkwell, stunning horse head in horseshoe

$135 USDAntique inkwell, stunning horse head in horseshoe

Antiques:Inkwell
A simply stunning old inkwell, this gorgeous metal piece features a horse head set inside a horse shoe. Exquisite detail, you can see the veins on the horse's face, his large kind eyes, even a bit of mane swirling over the horseshoe near the hinge. A pewter color, it appears to have a silvery plate or wash over brass, some of which is peeping through in spots. Heavy for its size, it stands about 3" to the tip of the ear, 5" across at the widest and 4.5" from front to back, beautifully ...
Antique horse hoof pin cushion, Victorian taxidermy

$110 USDAntique horse hoof pin cushion, Victorian taxidermy

Antiques:Horse Hoof Pin Cushion
The Victorians were notoriously sentimental, and often times a favorite horse was memorialized by having a hoof made into a commemorative piece. This is such a piece, a pony hoof actually, that was made into a pin cushion. The hoof is in excellent shape, including the underneath frog, and it wears an iron horseshoe. The covering on the pad, where the pins go, is original to the piece, and as you can see, shows wear, easily replaced, but I like the honest age it shows. I love the tribute that ...
Large Victorian pair of fireplace ornaments, horses in brass

$275 USDLarge Victorian pair of fireplace ornaments, horses in brass

Antiques:Accessories
A stunning pair of Victorian hearth or mantel ornaments, two large facing horses done in brass. These elegant and stately stallions wear surcingles on their backs and bridles with reins, necks arched and tails carried high. I couldn't quite capture the warmth of the brass patina on these fabulous steeds, acquired over the past 100+ years, they have a mellow glow. Weighing in at over 10 pounds for the pair, they are quite large and beautifully balanced, 9.5" to the top of the neck, the same ...
Antique tin advertising tray, puppy dogs and cards

$135 USD Offers ConsideredAntique tin advertising tray, puppy dogs and cards

Antiques:Trays
One of the more famous and sought after advertising trays of the early 1900's, this was made by H.D. Beach of Coshocton, Ohio. Dating to c. 1900, it's a large tin tray, measuring 16.5" by 13.5", about .75" deep. Three terrier puppies are playing cards in their own fashion, by demolishing the deck. Fall leaves adorn the rim of the tray, with two vignettes to each side, one of a mill house, water bubbling down into a stream, the other a house with a barn, the other side of the stream. The image is ...
Antique 1886 British rowing trophy, Trial Eights

$155 USDAntique 1886 British rowing trophy, Trial Eights

What a fabulous find, an English rowing trophy dating to 1886 from Emmanuel College in Cambridge. This large and stunning pewter cup was presented for Trial Eights and is beautifully engraved on both front and back. The handles are elaborate, the bottom is glass and the trophy has quite a few marks to the base, I've shown pictures of a few. L&F Cole, Cambridge is one mark, there is a bugle, the letters TW and the number 482. Standing 7" tall, it's 9" across at the handles, the base 4.75" in ...
Large antique tin advertising tray, horses in a pasture

$199 USDLarge antique tin advertising tray, horses in a pasture

Antiques:Trays
Another of my favorite old advertising trays, this one features four horses in their pasture. In the foreground, a small pond with cattails and in the background a barn, with what looks like a thatched roof. Made by one of the early manufacturers of Coshocton, Ohio, perhaps Beach or Meek, it has the information for the shoemaker W.B. Beamer at the top. At the bottom, the stock number 38, indicating what inventory number it was for the advertising company. The tray is in nice condition for its ...
Antique cast iron Saint Bernard dog doorstop,Victorian

$165 USDAntique cast iron Saint Bernard dog doorstop,Victorian

Antiques:Doorstop
English and from Victorian times, a large cast iron St. Bernard to adorn a shelf or hold open a door. Most likely, this is one of a pair of fireplace ornaments, separated over the years. Beautifully cast, our handsome Saint has a collar with a keg around his neck, and stands on an ornate curved base. A flat back, he stands 7" tall, 8.5" across at the base, and he's a heavy pup, weighing in at over 3 pounds. Most unusual to find a Saint Bernard to use for a doorstop, this c. 1890 dog is a beauty.
SOLD Antique German flue cover, little girl and terrier dog

SOLDSOLD Antique German flue cover, little girl and terrier dog

Antiques:Flue Cover
This is a charming old flue cover from Germany, one I've not had before. A little girl is in a Victorian drawing room, feeding a treat to her pet. The dog, a Smooth Fox or perhaps a Jack Russell, sits up and begs for her. He wears a wonderful old leather collar, with brass studs and nameplate. Lovely, soft color on this flue cover, with its crimped pie crust metal edge. It has the original hanging chain and the back has the impressed mark Made in Germany.
