This Watercolor of The Rialto Bridge is done in the impressionist style with dabs of color creating shapes and forms. The signature is M.A. and is hidden under the mat. This painting looks like it was painted straight on the watercolor paper from the palette. There has been no use of black in this painting as well as the white areas are white from the paper. The painting was done very well with the finest detail of shadows being cast into the water from the buildings as well as the intricate details of the buildings, bridge and gondolas. The frame that is holding this painting is carved wood with painted flowers. The dimensions are 13”H x 15”W, while the inner window is 11 ½”W x 6 ½” H. There is no date on the painting but from the oxidizing of the paper and style it could possibly be from the mid to early 1900’s.
