Canadian artist, John Wesley Cotton, executed this landscape watercolor. Upon looking closely at the painting you can see the intricate graphite lines of the under drawing, the history of the work of how he has altered his original plans, choosing to leave out certain details. His ability to show a range of tones in the painting provides the illusion of depth in the work that you can see in the trees, grass, and sky. This painting is from 1905 and you can see the age in the craftsmanship of the frame and the slight irregularities in the glass protecting the painting.
