Joseph Holdcroft Victorian majolica ware was produced at Daisy Bank in Longton, England from 1870 to 1885. His work is a true recreation of nature and his use of great colors. Items can be found marked with "JHOLDCROFT" but many items can only be attributed by their patterns and rich colors that are documented to come from the Holdcroft potteries. Not only was his work inspired by designs from Minton, Wedgwood and George Jones, but he also made use of some of their actual molds.
The color is absolutely magnificent with large caramel brown colored lily pads at the base and blue water lilies above that flanked by colorful green fiddle fern. It measures about 5 1/2" tall and a little over four inches from handle to spout. The inside is a pale lavender and the base has a raised small X.
You'll be proud to own this stand out piece of antique pottery. A picture of this Holdcroft pattern is shown in Warmans 2005 book on Majolica on page 144.
