Vintage CUBAN Hand-painted & Enameled Necklace

From the era when Havana was the place to see and be seen comes this lovely hand-painted and enameled necklace. Each link is black, with some having a beautifully detailed rose, while others having a confetti effect in pink, green and white. The clasp has the word CUBA painted in white. In perfect condition? Oh my no - not after all the years this one has seen, although the enamel and paint work is absolutely remarkable for it's age, and not one link is truly damaged (I am not talking about tiny flakes near the edges - I am talking about large portions of enamel missing from any of the links!) It appears this may have had gilt-work around the links and on the clasp, and that has faded, although it does appear faintly on some of the metal between the links. The ''bookchain'' metal on the back has lost whatever plating it once had, but is mechanically sound, as is the clasp. This is truly a remarkable piece of memorabilia from a forgotten era.
