Fraternal: Stratton "Mirth is King" Powder Compact

This is an unusual compact done in a brushed goldtone top with an etched figure of a monkey with a crown on his head. Above his crown is the word "Mirth" & in the center of his crown is "is King." "Mirth is King." Sounds like something Shakespeare may have written! This symbol is taken from the Royal Order of Jesters which has to do with the Fraternal Group of Shrine Masons or Eastern Star. The back of the compact is in goldtone with a small star design overall and marked: Stratton, Made in England in the center. The clasp is tight & works well. When you open it the compartment over the powder automatically opens on its own. There is a tag on the mirror, which is in excellent condition, that gives the instructions for opening this compartment. It also reads "Stratton" on the compartment door and on the powder puff which is still inside along with the screen. It also comes in a black felt case. I do not think this compact has ever been used! It is in excellent shiny condition and has never had any powder in it. Dimensions are approx.: 2 3/4"Rd.
