An exquisite Art Nouveau French jewelry casket of bronze dore decorated in a variety of finely crafted intricate decor and encasing panels of thick, beveled glass. The ornamentation on this piece is stunning, evoking a fantastical mythological subject matter of graceful mermaid ladies and magnificent fairytale dragons!

The decor surrounding the lid is absolutely gorgeous, depicting a beautiful mermaid costumed in popular art nouveau tradition with sinuous flowing hair and a delicate Grecian gown surrounded by a cascade of flowers! A sea dragon with elaborate flowers arising out of his mouth is depicted on the other side of the lid. Their tails connect at the center, beneath more lush flowers.

The edges of the box are festooned with classical decor of ornate frieze borders, trimmed by acanthus leaf corner mounts and centered by an elaborate escutcheon lock trimmed by stylized florals and shell ornamentation. The box rests on four reticulated feet.

The bronze box encases thick glass panels each trimmed with beveled edges. The decorative lid encases a fabulous contoured beveled glass panel.

Measures 8 1/8” in length x 4 3/8” tall x 5 3/8” in width. The box is in very good condition for its age with a couple of pin sized fleabites to the beveled edges. There is a lock, but the box is lacking a key. And the interior fabric is a replacement.
