A gorgeous French sterling silver and enameled glass Art Nouveau lady’s travel ‘spirit’ flask, housed in its original presentation box! Often times considered as a lay down scent or perfume bottle, these lady’s traveling flasks were meant originally for liqueurs. The glass is stunning, a dark green that fades to clear and embellished with hand painted raised enamel flowers, most likely made by one of the renown art glass factories of the era such as Legras or Baccarat. Original conical sterling silver screw-top lid with cork interior and snifter cup mounted at the base, both beautifully decorated with engraved rocailles.
Hallmarked with the French head of Minerve 1st standard mark for .950/1000 silver (a higher grade than sterling) and with maker’s marks for Lagriffoul & Laval, active in 1899, at 157 rue du Temple in Paris.
In very good condition with some small nips to the very bottom rim of the flask, from when the snifter was removed and returned back to place from time to time. A small shallow dimple to the top of the silver lid. The presentation box shows wear commensurate with age and use.
