Boxed Antique Austrian Jeweled & Shell Cameo Ormolu Casket

This early 20th century Austrian jeweled ormolu box is truly a rare find! Dripping with gems, it is covered in an array of colorful jewels with a large carved shell cameo adorning the lid. The box is entirely decorated in a raised relief arabesque pattern with ornate filigree work along the domed lid. Bright and vibrant pink, green, red, blue, purple as well as pearl ‘jewels’ surround a central cameo depicting a courting scene of Psyche and Cupid. Rich purple velvet lines the interior and at each corner of the box is a large and elaborate winged lion paw foot accented by a blue jewel.

Marked at the base with MADE IN AUSTRIA. Adding to the quality of this piece, is the original presentation case and a small hand written note inside that indicates that the piece was a gift while on a trip to Cuba dated 1928. In wonderful condition, no missing stones. There is light wear to the velvet lining and to the presentation case acquired from age.

Presentation case measures 4 3/8" height, 8 5/8" length and 6" wide. Box measures 3 7/8" in height, 7 3/8" length and 4 3/8" wide.
