Antique hand painted Limoges France porcelain plate depicting a harbor before or after a storm. Such a unique piece, you almost feel like the viewer on a rocky shore peering outward on the harbor with massive dark clouds on one side and a clear blue sky on the other. An opening of light through the clouds lingers on the ships at sea. A beautiful setting, painted in various hues of grays and browns with just a mix of blue to bring out that charm of the scene. Signed by the artist, the signature appears to be "Caol" or similar. Gold trimming circles the rim and the back of the plate is marked in blue with the S. Mass Limoges marking. Circa. 1890s. Ref. Pg 363 of Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain 3rd Edition by Mary Frank Gaston. A wonderful piece, in very good condition, with light paint wear from age. Measures 10 1/8" in diameter.
