Drawn by English architect, Thomas Allom and appearing as one of the 100's of engravings in the 4 volume edition from the 1840's, "China Illustrated", this tinted engraving is spectacular. Spectacular because of its expert rendering and that it captures a moment in history so well. This scene shows worshippers kneeling in prayer in front of an ensconced statue of Buddha. Excellent condition. Framed under glass. The frame is a vintage, shadow-box style and the interior is gilded while the exterior is painted in a "Chinese Red". When hung - all you see is the gilded interior framing. This is one of 7 recently acquired that all framed the same way. The matte is a double matte. The matte closest to the image is a gold color while the off-white matte has yellowed with age. I will be listing the other 6 engravings over the following days. Please note that the least expensive site selling, untinted and unframed copies is asking $225.00 each for these! Click now on the photo to see enlarged views!
