They are large. They are exquisitely made. They are highly wearable. They are guaranteed to attract nothing but the highest praise!

Made in the 1870's and in the Etruscan Revival tradition, these earrings feature fine granulation and cut-out scroll work.

They are at least 15K but not 18K which is typical of English made jewelery of the time.

One of the best features of these earrings are the way the ear hooks are hinged. This enables the putting on and taking off of the earrings in a very easy fashion without putting undo stress on the ear wire itself. Also, the bottom two parts are hinged to the round disk-like portion at the top which allows movement and the "dangling" effect.

There is a vertical row of tiny seed pearls that are very sturdily set and there is a prong set ruby at the top of the "wreath-like" ornamentation. There are larger seed turquoise in the disk portion. One appears to be a faux turquoise and was probably a replacement. You can see it in the photo as the color and size are different from the other.

Aside from that turquoise, these are in excellent condition. The only other anomoly worth mentioning can be seen from the side view - note the earring closest to you (the same one that contains the faux turquoise). The wreathe rises up slightly higher than on the other earring. As you can see from the front views (first photo) you cannot see this except from the side and unless someone points it out.

The earrings measure 2 1/4" x 1". 11.8 gm. The clever construction of these earrings means that they are much lighter in weight then they initially appear and will not pull on your earlobes. Very comfortable to wear all day long, every day!

The color of the gold is much closer to 18K. It definitely has a warm, antique patina. with crevices darkened with the collection of 140 years of life.
