Charming Vintage Ceramic Handmade Horse

While the maker may be unknown, we do know that this horse has tons of charm. Very decorative and somewhat whimsical, we can easily picture this decorating your home! We also know that we acquired this piece in the early 1960s so now it is at least 45 years old!

The total height including the base is approx. 10" x 7". The footprint of the base measures about 4" x 3". It is very securely mounted on its wooden base. What makes its charm is that it is executed in a very "painterly" manner - you can see the fingers of the sculptor pressing into the clay and the brushstrokes he/she used when glazing.

There is a noticeable break in one of the front legs (see photo) but it appears that it was repaired before it was mounted and was clearly incorporated into the piece so that it appears natural to it. Other than the interesting colors of the glaze, the only other decoration is the treatment of the tale and main. Those areas are deeply textured.
