This was the crown jewel of our netsuke collection. The 12 creatures of the Japanese Zodiac are all beautiful carved in full body form. Nice heft and round shape feels good in the hand. Artist signed too. Excellent condition. The critters represented are dragon, horse, ram, monkey, rabbit, tiger, rat, dog, boar, ox, rooster, and snake. Beautifully incised details. If you've already seen my other zodiac ball separately listed (see last photo) then you will see quite a difference. This one is also very nice, but it just shows the heads of the animals rather than the full bodies like the other. Also, we don't think it is as old. This is a very cute vintage netsuke. It has a really nice form and feels good in the hand. The pattern on the frogs skin is incised as are the eyes. Artist signed on the base. The base is also carved with the webbed feet of the frog. Very wearable. The color is a dark beige - possibly what they call a "tea stain". It compliments the carving very nicely. It measures 1 3/4" x 1 1/2".

Wish this was done on ivory rather than carved from a nut, but nevertheless it is a beauty. Great detail with inset eyes and artist signature on base. The vegetable looks like a radish. The rate actually looks cute! Excellent condition. It measures approx. 1 1/2" x 1". Highly wearable or displayable.

This little guy is probably the oldest and finest of the netsuke collection. The detailed carving and incised work is very well done. His facial expression is priceless. He is one happy dude! Perhaps this young fellow is drunk on sake! He is apparently taking libation from a gourd while his legs cling to the back of this bird (a crane?, swan?). The carving and incised work is incredibly fine and detailed including the underneath base showing the webbed feet of the bird! Artist signed and in excellent condition.
