The foreword says, “It is more than twenty years since my first article on food and cookery was published in the "Ladies' Home Journal,” and more than fifteen years since I was cookery editor of "Good Housekeeping Magazine. It seems but a flash of time since I talked to half a million home-makers during the war, and the day of my first radio talk is as close as though it were last week.” National Radio Homemakers Club was started by Ida Bailey Allen in response to all the requests and desires needs by women all over the country.
Some of the chapters included are: The Science of Menu Building, The Technique of Cooking, Cooking Short Cuts, Good Seasoning and Flavouring, Meat Substitutes, Setting the Table: Outdoor meals, The Fine Art of Carving and Serving, Church, Grange, and Club Suppers, Cakes, and From Our Foreign Neighbors. The advertising illustrations and text is fun to look at, Mazola and Linit are a couple that are featured.
It is a hardcover book with a wonderful illustration on blue cloth covers. The front of the cookbook has the Cooking – Menus – Service and the binding has the title Modern Cook Book. It is a heavy book,1008 pages, there is a special blue page section on parties and entertaining and there are wonderful ads at the back of the book. It is in excellent to very good vintage condition. The cover is bright and clean with only a tiny amount of wear. The pages are in great shape, clean with only light yellowing from age, we saw only a couple of pages that has some spots or marks. The binding is tight. This is a very nice book, and it is remarkable that it is in such good condition for its age.
