SALE German Hallmarked 800 Silver Etched Glass Decanter With 12 Glasses

This magnificent set has the crescent moon and crown hallmarks, the national marks of Germany that were introduced in 1886 and made mandatory in 1888. It consists of a fabulous blown glass decanter wonderfully etched with flowers and scrolls, in an ornate 800 silver base, and with a very detailed silver neck, and twelve matching cordials in handled silver settings.

The decanter is 8 1/4" high, 10 1/2" with the stopper, and measures just under 4 1/2" in diameter at the bottom. The glass is etched with the number 28 on the undersides of both the decanter and the stopper and the silver components are marked 800 with a maker's mark that we have not been able to decipher. The matching glass cups replicate one of the smaller flowers from the decanter with the identical hallmarks on the silver. They are 2 1/8" high with a 1 1/4" diameter at the top.

This set is in exceptional condition with only very minor flaws that do not detract. There is slight roughness on the bottom of the stopper and the bottom of one of the glasses under the silver. One of the glasses has a rim chip that could be ground and one has the tiniest of fleabites on the top. There is an internal neck chip in the glass at the top of the decanter; this lies under the silver and can only be seen with the stopper off and at an angle (see photos). The silver has age related tarnish that can be removed if desired.

This is an extraordinarily beautiful and complete German liqueur set!
