This wonderful ladle in the fiddle design is stamped GEBR. FRIEDLANDER for Gebrüder Friedlander (Friedlander Brothers), the high end German silver manufacturer and retailer of the 19th and early 20th centuries. It has the initial D in script, the city mark for Dessau (Saxony- Anhalt) which dates the manufacture to before 1886 when the use of individual city marks was replaced with the national mark. The third mark looks like 12, the early lot system assay mark indicating a silver purity of 750. ...

This fabulous sterling silver compact has the British hallmarks for Birmingham 1937 with a maker's mark that looks like SML Ltd. The face has the monogram JAM and wonderful art deco styling with dramatic vertical bars in the center contrasting with engine turned wavy lines. The interior retains the mirror and traces of gilding and the top was made without a catch. The compact has a diameter of 3 1/2".
