We believe that the colored parts of this 9 1/4" plate are handpainted on a transferware pattern. It is stunning with with two birds sitting among the bulrushes and other flowers and foliage. The colors are lovely and include brown, yellow, green, turquoise blue, pink and salmon on an ecru background. Likely from the aesthetic period, there are hand painted marks on the reverse and impressed marks which we have not been able to decipher. This transferware plate features a picture of Sir Wilfred Laurier, the 7th Prime Minister, and 1st francophone Prime Minister, of Canada from 1896-1911. The back of this commemorative transfer printed plate is impressed 8 07, indicating a production date of 1907, and is stamped "Sir Wilfred Laurier Premier of Canada Ridgways England".
