This is a magnificent charger designed by Charlotte Rhead for Crown Ducal. It has wonderful, tube-lined, stylized flowers in blue and lilac colors. The gorgeous pattern, “Blue Peony” No. 4016, was produced in the mid 1930's. This fabulous charger has a diameter of 12 1/2" and a depth of 1 ˝" at the perimeter. The foot is pierced twice for hanging. The base has the Crown Ducal logo and the signature includes the pattern number and the initial F. It is in excellent condition with light crazing.

We believe that the colored parts of this 9 1/4" plate are handpainted on a transferware pattern. It is stunning with with two birds sitting among the bulrushes and other flowers and foliage. The colors are lovely and include brown, yellow, green, turquoise blue, pink and salmon on an ecru background. Likely from the aesthetic period, there are hand painted marks on the reverse and impressed marks which we have not been able to decipher. This terrific octagonal plate has the British registration date mark for 1884 on the underside with the pattern name The World and maker's mark M.B.& Co. The beehive mark is identical to the Wallis Gimson & Co mark and the plate was most likely made by them.
