This is a fabulous vintage late nineteenth century bronze statue. Beautifully done by the renown Italian artist Luca Madrassi (see Berman, et. al.). A large (35 inches high including plinth) and impressive work featuring two lovers. The detail and form of execution is superb. Luca Madrassi was Italian born in 1848, and died in Paris in 1916. He was born in Tricessimo, Italy and studied in Rome and Paris. He moved to France at a young age. He studied under the master Cavalier at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and later worked in the studio of Bourdelle. He was also a primary assistant to Ronald Gower and the Gower Memorial. Madrassi exhibited at the Salon of the Societe des Artistes Francais in Paris (1881-1896) and the Nationale in 1896. His career spanned the years from about 1869 to 1914. Very imaginative, Madrassi carried out many busts, statuettes, statues, and groups mainly on allegorical subjects or of kind. His original work is exhibited in many major museums. This particular work is entitled 'Beaux - Arts' pertaining to the period, style, and studio of the late nineteenth century. The bronze statue sits atop the original solid plinth with solid brass feet (minor losses to plinth edges). Please note the fine and detailed workmanship of the feet, flowers, and, of course, lovers faces. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
