Vintage Murano Glass Bead Necklace w/ Birds and Leaves

This lovely old Murano glass necklace was handmade in Italy some time during the 30s or 40s. It is unusual because of its color. Most of these were in white or in a periwinkle blue. This one is deep robin’s egg blue. It does have the signature gold glass layer on all of the birds and some of the necklace beads.

There are 7 clumps of birds and leaves. Each clump has four birds and some have one leaf or two. One is missing a leaf. There are some condition problems, which is typical of these old Venetian glass necklaces. You must look very closely to see these problems though. One bird is missing its head, six have chipped beaks and several have chipped tail tips. One of the clumps is missing a leaf, while others have two leaves. Three of the leaves have fleabite chips and one has a more significant chip. If you’re looking for perfection, you only need to look at the many reproductions now available. This, however, is completely authentic, with the bumps and bruises to prove it!

The necklace measures 18.5 inches end to end. It has an adjustable length hook and bead closure. The string has stretched a bit near one end of the necklace. I will leave the decision to restring or not to the new owner. I am offering this piece in its original condition.
