We have seen a few of these little Japanese necklaces from post-WWII 1950’s and this is one of the more interesting of them. Each bead is glass and the fruits seem to be hand-painted because some of the paint is chipped off. There are 6 apples and 5 pears with a variety of red, green and white spacers. The white spacers are actually four separate pieces fitted together to look like one bumpy bead. All pieces are glass and the colors are still brilliant. The clasp is brass and VERY oxidized. It works just fine though. And yes, this piece is downright dirty. We are always fearful of damaging these old things by cleaning them, so we will leave it to the new owner. This is a small necklace, typical of the times. It measures 15 inches end to end. The apples are about 10 x 10 mm.
