We are offering you the opportunity to own this unusual, hand made pipe holder, or pen rack. It is all clearly hand made by somebody with an eye for the unique. It measures 11 7/8 inches long and stands about 9 inches tall. Made from quartersawn white oak, it shows the terrific grain flecks that are so prized by collectors of Arts and Crafts furniture. While we do not know the age of this item, it certainly does have a feeling of Stickley and the Craftsman movement. It is built to represent a swinging garden gate between two fence posts. In front of the fence there is a gallery cut with five evenly spaced holes all measuring 5/8 inches in diameter. The holes are intended to hang pipes or hold pens on end. The base of the piece has a pencil groove cut into it, so this is obviously a desk piece. It is well constructed and quite a statement when sitting on a desk.

The condition of the piece is very good. It was originally made with glue and brads. Over time some of the wood apparently split at the brad holes. Repairs were unobtrusively made by a previous owner and the piece is now as sound as ever. When we obtained it, it was covered with dirt and grime. We used a cleaner wax to conserve the piece, remove the grime, and bring out the original beauty and patina of the wood. As it is now, it shows off beautifully and would look great sitting on any desk or shelf. Check the photos carefully and you will get a good sense of how nice this item is.
