We are offering a delightfully graceful hand painted turned wooden urn, or vase, and lid that is signed as “Made in Finland”. This vase stands 8 inches tall without the lid. With the lid there is an additional 4 ½ inches. It is about 4 3/4 inches across the round base and 5 ½ inches across at the widest point at the top. Running around the sides of the urn there is a painted vignette that consists of a series of figures in ethnic attire being pulled in a horse and buggy, again with the horse decorated in ethnic attire. In addition, there is a painted floral design along with some flowing ribbons. On top of the lid a chip carved piece has been attached to serve as both a decoration and a handle. Centered in the handle is a heart underneath a chip carved star. The condition of the piece is excellent with no cracks or other significant flaws. We believe that it is made out of birch which would be in keeping with coming from Finland. The surface has aged to a golden brown that adds a nice patina. On the bottom of the piece are written the words “Made in Finland” in addition to the initials KK within a circle stamped into the wood. This is a marvelous decorative item that will be sure to please you or be a wonderful gift for somebody special.
