Inlaid Prison Art Jewelry Box for “Mother Dear”

We have obtained a truly unique piece of prison art. Be sure to look carefully at all of the photos to get a full sense of the piece. This box is constructed of solid scrape wood and decorated on the outside with wooden stick matches. It is lined both inside the storage area and in the lid with blue-green satin. The matchwork design is a delight to behold. It is artistically done with just the right amount of variation to keep it interested. In the front the word “Mother Dear” is carved onto an inlaid piece of mahogany. The top and sides also have inlaid mahogany designs set into a field of match sticks. On the front of the lid there is a brass knob.

The box measures about 7 1/4 inches long, 4 1/4 inches wide and stands about 3 1/4 inches tall. The whole surface of the box is varnished, producing a rich golden color and a mild sheen. All of the matches are in place and, overall, this is a very well constructed item that has survived well and wears its age very nicely. As a prison art collectible or as a special gift to Mother, this is a terrific item that you will surely be pleased with.
