This book is part of the “Provinciales” Collection, a series of books about the provinces of France. It was published in Paris by Editions Des Horizons De France, with a copyright of 1942. However, on the last page of the book there is a small block of text with the date 1950. It is bound in hard covers with a nice heraldic symbol of Bourgogne on the front cover. The book is in fine condition, with minor yellowing on some of the pages, but it has a clean, tight binding. The text is all about the region with much information about wine. It starts out with a fold out map of the area and has two other fold out maps, all heavily illustrated. There are many half tone photographs depicting people and places in Bourgogne. It covers history, customs, costumes, art, architecture and more. There are beautiful lithographic plates of costumes with many other color illustrations. Towards the back of the book there is a chronological history table. Some of the artists whose work appears in the book are Jean Moreau, L W Graux, and Louis C Palabot. It was co-authored by Pierre de Saint Jacob, Pierre Quarre, C. Oursel. There are 212 pages. This book would be a terrific gift for the Francophile, or Francophone, in your life.
