German/ Bavarian Cast Brass 30 Hour Cupid Clock

This delightful little table clock will bring a smile to your face when you see it sitting on a night stand or end table. It is made of solid cast brass and carries a Bavarian theme with a cupid, deer head and floral motif. The shield that surrounds the clock face has some small areas of residual paint in red and white that might have served to enhance the motif. The total height of the piece is about 5 3/4 inches tall and about 5 inches wide at the widest point. The circular base is about 3 3/4 inches around. The clock face is about 2 inches across. We originally thought that the clock was made from spelter, but upon closer inspection feel that it is solid brass. The clock face has the name “Mercedes” printed on it with “West Germany” running along the bottom, so the clock works are clearly from post-World War II. However, we think that the clock works might be a replacement as the brass body of the piece seems to be much older than World War II. If the clock works is a replacement, then it is a very good match to the nature of the piece. The clock is a 30 hour mechanism and runs well, keeping good time.
