Do you collect tobacciana? This little item will set your collection apart from all others. We have obtained this copy of “Tobacco Leaves” by John Bain, published in 1903 by the H. M. Caldwell Company in Boston. Copies of this book are hard to find normally, but this is the only copy that you are ever likely to see that is bound in gilded padded suede covers and encased in a beautifully illustrated simulated cigar box. The box, alone, is fabulous. Made to look like a cedar cigar box it is decorated with two gorgeous lithographs, both dated 1894 by Geo. S. Harris & Sons, NY. One of the lithos is on the outside and the second, and larger one, is on the inside. The condition of the box is very good although it is starting to split along one edge. Still, it is quite sound. The book is in excellent condition, being clean and bright with no weakening of the binding. Usually, early suede tends to flake and turn to dust, but not so in this case. There are 192 pages of text, including poems and other writings, dedicated to the glories of tobacco. On the title page there is a beautifully done two-page lithograph of tobacco fields, presumably in Havana, Cuba. Finally, a yellow ribbon book-mark is attached to the book and marked “Perfectos”, a brand of cigar.
