We have managed to obtain a terrific souvenir of Interlaken, Switzerland. This is a hand made wooden bench, completely constructed from olive wood and beautifully paint decorated with violets. Although the souvenir is for Switzerland, the item was probably crafted in southern France. The bench top is about 10 inches long and about 5 ½ inches wide. When the legs are folded up it is about 3/4 inch thick. When the legs are unfolded, it stands about 4 inches tall. This is a very striking little piece of folk art. Look at the photos carefully and you will notice the well done rendition of two pink violet blossoms along with a violet leaf. In the upper left corner the name “Interlaken” has been added as a nod to the souvenir status of this item. The whole piece has been top-coated with a layer of varnish that has protected the painting over the years and adds a marvelous tactile quality to the wood. This bench is a beauty and would look terrific on display on your bookshelf, or could be used set up as a display stand for some other treasures that you might have.
