Sweetpea Cottage is selling an eye-catching Regional Navajo Rug. This rug is most likely from the 1930's, based on the estate that it came from and the bold graphic nature of the pattern. The colors are black, grayish brown, and red with a creamy white background. The red is bright and vibrant. The design is very bold and has many elements that are reminiscent of J. B. Moore designs. It has the feel of a storm pattern with lightening bolts. Overall, this rug is in good shape. The dimensions are about 38 inches by 66 inches, although there is some minor variation as the edges are not perfectly straight. The rug is very heavy and tightly woven. There are the common color variations in the gray areas of the background due to the mixing of different wools, along with the usual lazy lines. There is a noticeable spot that appears in the field towards one end. The spot is about 3/4 inch across and passes through both sides of the rug. There are other small spots showing at different locations, none of them being particularly noticeable. Along one of the edges, there is some bleeding of the red into the white background. It is limited in the area that is impacted and is not a distraction. It could be removed by a professional if you choose. If you look closely at any of the edge or corner photos, you will see some white threads appearing through the weave along with some small pulls. Upon close inspection, it does not appear to have any holes or repairs. The rug may have been on a floor at one time, but if it was, then it has survived very well. There is no indication of any thinning as would be expected from floor wear. We have not cleaned this rug, nor do we feel that it needs to be cleaned.
