Here is your chance to obtain a terrific piece of folk art, an early wooden hanging comb case with fine line carving. This early piece is constructed of pine primarily with square brads, although there is some evidence of glue used to strengthen some of the joints at an earlier time along with some later nails added to strengthen the piece. The whole case is beautifully decorated with fine line carvings that are reminiscent of sheaves of wheat. From the front the design covering the piece is quite stunning and a real eye grabber. Condition is quite good although some of the joints have opened up a little bit as is expected with the movement of wood over the years. The whole surface is lightly finished with shellac that appears to be original. On the back there are two eyes used to string a wire for hanging. The eyes are clearly a modern replacement as there are two filled holes at the top that originally contained some sort of hanger. The dimensions are 8 ½ inches tall, 7 3/4 inches wide, and the comb case sits 2 7/8 inches from the wall. This piece would look terrific hanging on your wall.
