Sweetpea Cottage is offering this marvelous set of hand hammered Jugendstil candelabras or candlesticks, made by Hugo Berger (Working as Goberg) in Germany during the early 1900's. Jugendstil was the German component of the Arts and Crafts movement that was so popular worldwide. The two candelabras will each hold five candles and have a floral motif in their centers, each cut from heavy gauge sheet steel, hand hammered for details, and then attached to steel bases. Each candelabra stands 13 inches tall, is 12 1/4 inches wide, and the foot of each candelabra is 4 3/4 inches round. Both pieces have remnants of the original protective varnish that Goberg always used, but most of it has worn off and a fine layer of oxidation has established a wonderful patina. In our opinion the condition of this set is excellent. It has been well treated over the years. Every once in a while a single candelabra will be available for sale on the internet but it is unusual to encounter a matched set. Both bases are stamped Germany and Goberg on the underside of the base. Sitting on a Stickley table or Arts and Crafts sideboard, this set of candelabras will be the crowning touch to your home decor.
