SOLD Signed Carved Folk Art Whistle w/ Spinning Wheel & Sliding Doors

We have managed to obtain a very unusual piece of folk art. This is a hand carved whistle that has a body made from a single piece of wood. On one end there is a pin wheel attached so that when the whistle is blown the wheel spins. There are also two sliding doors on the piece. One door on the front diverts the stream of air so that it will go towards the wheel, or when moved to the other position towards the whistle. On top there is a second sliding door that opens up into a compartment where the whistle reed is located. On the outside there is a carving with the initials E. M. while on the other side there is a figural image of a person (?), frog (?), or who knows. The mouthpiece is split and has been wrapped with thread. It measures about 5 inches long and about 1 3/4 inches tall. It is about 3/4 inch wide. We have never seen anything like this and can not provide any information about where it is from other than that it was obtained from an estate is up-state New York. It has a wonderful patina from loving hands which has darkened it over the years. Alas, we are unable to make a sound from the whistle. Perhaps you can be more successful. Regardless, you will never find another one of these!
