We are offering for sale an unusual diminutive Black Forest dresser box. This box is unique in that there is a hidden lock on the lid that keeps it closed. A sliding panel on the lid pushes forward and unlocks the lid. The box measures 4 inches by 2 ½ inches by 2 inches. An incised carved design is found on all four sides and the lid. In addition, the lid is decorated in three panels. The center panel has a carved edelweiss which is common to many Black Forest items. The condition of the box is very good with no signs of abuse. There is a small ½ inch crack on the right side of the lid that is hardly visible. There is also some warping to the lid as is common of many Black Forest items. However, the warping does not prevent the lid from working properly. The piece has a terrific patina that only comes with age and the surface is very fresh. If you collect Black Forest pieces, then you will really enjoy this one. Its small size along with the mystery lock makes it a bit different from the normal Black Forest box. Whether sitting on a desk, bureau, or shelf the box will give you a lifetime of pleasure. You could even put a cloth lining in it and it would make a great jewelry gift presentation box for somebody.
