This is an elegantly styled bent wood box, with beautiful, graceful lines and rich color. While many tines are found with rosemaling or tole painting on them, this box has been entirely constructed with Pennsylvania black cherry emphasizing the beautiful grain and color of the wood. Carefully hand made at Sweetpea Cottage, it has been steam bent and fastened together with rows of tiny copper tacks that are reminiscent of Shaker boxes. The cherry has a rich red color, that continues to darken with age. The corner posts are carved in a “winged” motif representing theVikings. The handle is a swooping arch in the style of the handles on antique tines. The box sits on a diminutive chamfered base that adds a solid masculine touch to the piece. The lid snaps down onto the corner posts, giving this type of box the nickname “snap box.” Overall, it is a beautiful interpretation of the traditional Norwegian , or Scandinavian, tine.

The box is round measuring about 6 inches in diameter and 7 1/4 inches from the outside ends of the two posts. The total height is 5 ½ inches, with the body of the box standing 3 ½ inches. The wood has been treated with a Danish oil, then finished with several coats of a polyurethane/oil finish, and finally hand-rubbed with a high quality wax. The oil has helped to bring out the richness of the cherry and the wood is developing the classic cherry patina that is so sought after.

This tine would be a very unique present for somebody special, and would look great on a desk or shelf, in a place of honor. With the flowing lines and classic color, it could stand alone as a piece of art. It is also a nice size for storing small incidental items. High quality tines like this are very hard to find anywhere and it is reasonably priced for its quality and size.
