Hand crafted in our own woodworking shop at Sweetpea Cottage, this classic bent wood box is a unique item reflecting the simplicity of fine folk art, made in the traditional manner of the Norwegian tines, or tina. It can stand as a piece of art on its own, or it would make an excellent conversation piece, storage box for desk detritus, or jewelry box. For years now, our tines made at Sweetpea Cottage have been eagerly sought by discriminating collectors of fine artisan wood items.

Crafted like a piece of fine furniture, this is an elegantly styled bent wood box, with beautiful, graceful lines and rich color. The tina has been entirely constructed with Pennsylvania black cherry emphasizing the beautiful grain and color of the wood. It has been steam bent and fastened together with the traditional copper tacks that were used by Shaker artisans. A heart has been carved into the front of the box, reminiscent of old bridal boxes. The cherry has a rich red-brown color that will continue to darken with age. The corner posts are cut in a simple “horn” pattern that is standard on traditional tines. The lid snaps down tightly onto the corner posts, giving this type of box the nickname “snap box.” It is a beautiful interpretation of the traditional Norwegian, Swedish, or Scandinavian tine.

The box measures about 6 5/8 inches long and about 3 1/4 inches wide. The total height is 5 3/4 inches, with the body of the box standing 2 3/8 inches tall. The wood has been finished with a Danish oil, then protected with several coats of polyurethane/oil finish, and finally hand-rubbed with high quality wax.
