Sweetpea Cottage is pleased to offer this marvelous chip-carved box to you. Although it is constructed in the manner of a candle box, given its shape it is unlikely that it was ever used for that purpose. Most likely is was originally intended to be a dresser box or desk box for a refined gentleman. The chip carved patterns differ on all four side and are reminiscent of those commonly found on early Scandinavian, Norwegian, or Swedish boxes. It dates from the last quarter of the 19th century.
