Welcome to Sweetie's Memorable Gemz, filled with beautiful vintage treasures & more. Free US shipping & Lay-a-Way welcome.
In the early 1990's the Victoria & Albert Museum in London held a special exhibition of the most extraordinary costume jewelry of the 20th century, it was sponsored by Daniel Swarovski of the famous Swarovski family that creates to this day the most dazzling rhinestones used in the finest costume jewelry.
There is a huge book that catalogs the jewelry in that exhibit called "The Jewels of Fantasy - Costume Jewelry of the 20th Century", that book alone is a collector's treasure today and is not easy to find. On page 327 a Trifari serpent necklace displayed is part of this Trifari with Crown gold plated collection of a coiled snake holding a large faux pearl drop in the center. There is also a matching bracelet and drop earrings to this collection but that was not part of the exhibit. I am referencing the book cover and page with this listing.
The coiled snake is large, bold and 3 dimensional, the gold plated metal has the look of real jewelry with it's textured skin, bands of clear pave rhinestones set in rhodium, the large pave diamond shape on the head of the serpent and the two large green cabochon eyes are outstanding, the large pear shaped faux pearl dangles on a rhinestone cap from the mouth of the snake and moves freely.
The total length of the pin measures just under 4" the measurement of the gold plated pin not including the faux pearl drop is almost 2-3/4" long and measures 2" across the widest portion of the coiled snake body which is not flat but undulates up and down. The swivel clasp moves easily and is secure, also the back of the pin has a beautiful matte gold plated finish. This is one of the finest designed and detailed collections made by Trifari in 1960.
Regarding the Famous Provenance - I purchased this pin directly from the family of the famous woman who owned it, anyone familiar with the New York, New Jersey area would know the Roebling family is well known for building one of our most famous landmarks in New York City - the Brooklyn Bridge, it is that same Roebling family i obtained this pin from and will be glad to provide a history of the dynamic business woman who originally wore this beautiful brooch. For privacy reasons I prefer not to mention her name on this listing but it will be given to the buyer. I have bought several items from her estate directly from her family and i can write that she was a woman of impeccable taste, a woman who knew famous writers, entertainers and important political figures on the world stage and invited them to her New Jersey home.
In addition to being a beautiful 1960 signed Trifari with Crown gold plated figural brooch it has added historical significance coming from one of America's most well known families.
