VOLUPTE, was a famous compact and cigarette case manufacturer established in Elizabeth, NJ in 1926. They were most prolific during the 1930's through 1950's and created many different compact shapes, styles as well as a small line of fine quality costume jewelry. In addition to compacts they created beautiful carryalls and unique swing lock compacts.

This white enamel compact is a beautiful example of how original their designs were, not your typical fancy ladies compact at all, but with 3 wonderful whimsical raised figures of a marching band set on a diagonal, the drum major, trumpet player and tuba player in bright red, white and blue uniforms with clear rhinestone accents and plumed hats. This delightful compact has always been one of my very favorites because of the charming figures on the lid.

Almost identical marching band figures were also created by Dujay back in the late 1930's for costume jewelry, which leads me to believe this compact dates to that same period, also the original Volupte box is an early box design compared to the black box with flaps used later. The original signed Volupte flannel pouch is also included.

This delightful compact is a treasure for any serious compact collector. Just like the compacts that were designed by famous costume jewelry manufacturers like my Ciner compact also listed on Ruby Lane. The other famous costume jewelry companies that also manufactured ladies powder compacts are Hobe, Eisenberg, Coro, Hattie Carnegie, Trifari, Original by Robert. These compacts are especially sought after and tend to be the most valuable, expensive and collectible.

Measurements are 3" square and just under 1/2" high. The inside is in clean, bright, unused condition, the square puff is soft and clean also never used, the gold tone interior is clearly marked Volupte USA on the powder compartment lid. The inside of the well has Leak Proof engraved because there are no sifters used with this design that is lined in felt around the edges. Both the top lid and powder lid snap shut securely.
