Even if you are not a gold coin collector interested in collecting coins, there is one coin that is always popular and in demand, it's referred to as the "Angel" 20 Francs French Gold Coin - dated 1893. The Third Republic dates from 1871 to 1898.

This beautiful coin is mounted on a stamped 18 kt. gold 4 prong setting with partial opening in the back that does not damage the coin itself and it can always be removed from the setting if you don't wish to wear it as a pin, Also the pin backing has a trumpet closure that is very secure.

The Angel design first appeared in 1792 and depicts the standing Guardian Angel figure inscribing the French Constitution on the tablet. Also present is the Rooster, the famous symbol of France - The Coq d'Or. The front of the coin says Republique Francaise along the top and the name of the designer Augustine Dupre on the bottom. I can't see any mint mark on the coin. There are also raised letters and stars along the rim of the coin which are not covered by the gold frame saying Dieu Protege La France.

The reverse side says 20 Francs the date 1893 surrounded by a wreath and under the frame is written Liberte Egalite Fraternite between the wreath and rim This portion is covered by the band of the gold coin frame which measures about 4 mm wide.

The coin itself weighs 6.4516 grams and the entire weight with the 18kt frame is 8.9 grams. The coin is also .900 gold or 90% pure gold and measures 21 mm in diameter.

The French 20 Francs Angel is a beautiful coin with historical significance and best of all it can be worn and enjoyed. If you wish to wear this coin as a pendant I am sure any good jeweler can add a bale to the coin frame without too much difficulty.
