Here is a totally upscale dress that has so many features and such detail that one can't help think that this was a professional designer/tailor dress custom made for perhaps a diplomats wife. Talk about era specific!

It literally shows off it's beauty in the fabric alone. I'm no expert on fabrics but I do believe that this is a silk satin brocade, utterly luxurious!. The selvage edge reads "Fou Wah H. K. the last 2 letters obviously meaning Hong Kong. So many gorgeous garments were created there in the 1950's or so.

The color and quality of this material is simply stunning. It literally shimmers and ranges from the softest pale gold to a rich light copper depending on the lighting. The tiny apple blossom (I think that's correct) that are embroidered on the ground color are executed in copper, nut brown, and gold threads.

Couture Details >Bodice and skirt cut separately meet at waist

>gathered overlapping soft box pleats start at 2" wide at the waist then fall in ever widening gathers that form a sweep of 112"

>step in style with tiny covered buttons up the front of bodice plus two small "knot" buttons fashioned from fabric with a loop and button fastener at throat

>notched sleeves decorated again with a "frog" flower

>notched collar and sleeves openings are finished with fabric bias tape

>there are belt loops and a belt fashioned from the same fabric is fitted with 2 dome fasteners at one end and 4 on the other end for adjustment if needed.

>2 hook and eye fasteners at waist hidden by 2 more decorative frog fasteners with a ball knot and loop. There is a generous 4" hem. Hard to cover and describe everything, please email if you have questions.

Measurements Petite size

Sleeve length 10 1/2" Sleeve opening 10" in circumference Shoulder 5" across top back seam to seam 15 1/4" Skirt length from waist 15" Bodice 16" collar seam to waist Overall length 41" Waist 25" Hips full Bust 34 1/2

Condition I don't think the past owner attending these top drawer functions wore the same thing twice as this dress looks almost new. I did find 1 place on the top of left sleeve where it meets shoulder seam is showing slight stress and the hem appears to have been raised 1 1/2".

The final pic is of the wrong side of the material.

Note-quite often I list my garments for sale in both of my shops this one and my other shop on Etsy. So if you really love something, don't hesitate. You can check out my other shop by clicking on favorite links to be found on my home page.

Sizing: Please note: When I measure any clothing items, they are laid flat, so the measurements are of the garment, not a person. In order to be fairly certain that the item of your choice will fit you comfortably, I suggest that you do the same.

Choose a similar item that you have in your closet and make it one that you feel very comfortable wearing. Lay it on a flat surface, take the measurements then compare them with the sizing in the description of the item you are interested in purchasing.

Shipping is a flat $20.00 within Canada & Continental U.S.A.

Please email with any and all questions before purchasing!

Vintage fashions: Unless otherwise stated, all the items of clothing and accessories that are offered for sale are vintage, ranging from the forties through the eighties. Therefore they have had a great former life and unless noted, all are gently worn. I try my best to buy quality and to note flaws however these items are not new and I do not represent them as “new”. They will not look like you just bought them at your local mall. So if a slight mark here, a loose button or a pulled stitch there, bothers you please don’t buy. I want my customers to be very pleased with their purchase. If you’re happy we’re all happy.

Also please take note that I have absolutely no control over the mail service. Once it’s delivered to them it’s their responsibility. I will always try to mail the cheapest method but, with that, there is no insurance or tracking number. If you require those services, know that the postage will be quite a bit higher.
