I'm not sure of the fabric content although it appears to me to be a crepeline of possibly silk but most likely a silk blend or polyester. The entire fabric surface is finely puckered.
This is a versatile garment as it could easily be a cover up for beach wear at the tiki bar or a gown to wear dancing on the white sand under the twinkling stars.
Hard to describe the dress itself because it is asymmetrical in a number of ways. The top of the bodice slants from the left shoulder down to where it meets the right hand wide shoulder strap.
Speaking of the shoulders straps, the right one is fixed, you would slip your arm through it, but the left side has 2 dome fasteners, one above the other. This strap fastened, the hook and eye plus the 14" side zipper below create the armhole on the left.
As you can see in the photos, the right hand side of bodice down to well below the hip line is a vibrant green. All the other colors start at top left shoulder and continue down to the asymmetrical hem line. The back of the dress is the total opposite, the colors start from the top of the right shoulder strap.
The shape of the dress (for measurements and fitting) is defined by a mid green poly lining, in a shift style. Sewn to it are floating shaped panels that curve over each other and create a very dramatic, yet romantic effect. There are 2 11" darts in the front that run from under the bust area and curve over to the sides. Label reads "Meme Dysthe". Please click on the pics to get the zoom feature. They show this item much better.

Condition
This lovely garment sadly has a couple of issues. There are two under arm protectors sewn in but unfortunately the right side under arm front has perspiration marks, see 1st. pic. There are also a couple of marks on the skirt, one about the size of a dime on the mauve panel in the front, another tiny one on the front green bodice below the bust. None of these really takes away the wearability as the striking colors is what one sees. On the left side seam at zipper is what appears to be a fade mark? Actually I'm not quite sure what it is, but does appear to have something to do with the color.
Does all this sound like a bit much to you? Not at all, if this striking dress fit me I'd run right out and purchase a spring green dye and just brush it lightly on the under arm staining and the fade mark. The other 2 marks that I've mentioned look to me like they would come out with a simple stain remover or even a washing. However, I can't guaranty anything, wish I could.
I've not had this dress cleaned nor has it been washed. I'll leave that up to the lucky new owner. The asking price reflects condition. Should you require more photos, email and I'll provide them.
Please note: Sizing:
When I measure any clothing items, they are laid flat, so the measurements are of the garment, not a person. In order to be fairly certain that the item of your choice will fit you comfortably, I suggest that you do the same. Choose a similar item that you have in your closet and make it one that you feel very comfortable wearing. Lay it on a flat surface, take the measurements then compare them with the sizing in the description of the item you are interested in purchasing.
Vintage fashions:
Unless otherwise stated, all the items of clothing and accessories that are offered for sale are vintage, ranging from the forties through the eighties. Therefore they have had a great former life and unless noted, all are gently worn. I try my best to buy quality and to note flaws however these items are not new and I do not represent them as “new”. They will not look like you just bought them at your local mall. So if a slight mark here, a loose button or a pulled stitch there, bothers you please don’t buy. I want my customers to be very pleased with their purchase. If you’re happy we’re all happy.
Also please take note that I have absolutely no control over the mail service. Once it’s delivered to them it’s their responsibility. I will always try to mail the cheapest method but, with that, there is no insurance or tracking number. If you require those services, know that the postage will be quite a bit higher.
