SOLD Late 30's early 1940's Skirt Suit--Pleated skirt-"The Union" NOS

This 2 piece skirt and jacket set are just elegant. The fabric has a slight sheen making it rustle when walking or taking off the jacket. It is rayon gabardine (?), could be wrong there but that's my best guess.

The skirt is all accordion pleats and the sweep is huge, about 116". There is a 7" metal zipper plus a button hole at the waist. The jacket has lots of darling design features. Two small patch pockets on the front sides that curve down slightly boast self fabric buttons with faux button holes. The wing tip collar and cuffs are finished beautifully as are all the seams. There are 4 darts in the back and 4 in front that give the lovely nipped waist and a slight flare, the look so fashionable in garments of this era. Down the front are 3 self fabric covered button and 4 button holes. The jacket has small padded shoulders.

Measurements Jacket Bust 19" x 2 Waist 30" Bottom (hip area) 36.5 Sleeve length 18 " Across back 14 1/2 " Shoulder 5" Skirt Waist 25" Hips full Length 30" Tag reads size 14 .Please note that this is a vintage size 14 and sizing has changed over the decades.

Condition is Very Good Vintage. There are 3 flaws that I've found, two of which are to do with the buttons. There is one missing on waist band and one missing from front however there are the 2 on the pockets that could be removed, then sewn as replacements. The other is a few stitches at the top of a dart at the back. Just needs a couple of minutes to fix with a needle and thread. The blue turtle neck sweater and bangles shown, are NOT FOR SALE, they are strictly props to show this suits potential.

The original blue and white cardboard tag that reads "The Union", remains so I'm fairly certain that this elegant outfit has never been worn. Please note: Sizing: When I measure any clothing items, they are laid flat, so the measurements are of the garment, not a person. In order to be fairly certain that the item of your choice will fit you comfortably, I suggest that you do the same. Choose a similar item that you have in your closet and make it one that you feel very comfortable wearing. Lay it on a flat surface, take the measurements then compare them with the sizing in the description of the item you are interested in purchasing.

Vintage fashions: Unless otherwise stated, all the items of clothing and accessories that are offered for sale are vintage, ranging from the forties through the eighties. Therefore they have had a great former life and unless noted, all are gently worn. I try my best to buy quality and to note flaws however these items are not new and I do not represent them as “new”. They will not look like you just bought them at your local mall. So if a slight mark here, a loose button or a pulled stitch there, bothers you please don’t buy.
