The lovely soft fabric is semi-sheer and I believe it to be organza (incorrect? let me know) features soft navy, golden rod yellow and white (what else!) simple flowers. The empire waist features 2 gros grain ribbons running under the bust line. The yellow, as you can see, has deteriorated and I think that originally there was a bow or perhaps a small faux flower there. When viewed from the back-there are 4 ribbons each 33” long, 2 in yellow, 2 in navy. There is also a bow. A keyhole neckline at the back is formed from a hook and eye, then a 6 ½” space, then the zipper top. The sleeves are puffed and full, gathered at the wrist by dome fasteners.
Measurements: Bust 34”> Empire waist line 27” > Shoulder 2 ¼” > Sleeve length 23”> Wrist diameter 7 ½” > Hip area (full) 48” > Sweep 65”> Overall length from top of back to bottom of hem 54” > Circumference of armhole 16”> Across back 13”
This ankle length gown is fully lined with acetate ivory in color, with the exception of the sleeves and top of the back. This lining is cut in one piece and is attached only at the raised waistline. The hem of the lining is stitched with horsehair, so is stiff. The only seam travels down from the bottom of the 13” metal zipper to the bottom of the hem in the back. There are 2 -7” darts in the front running down from the Empire waistline, and 2 -12” down the back.
I have measured both the lining and the overdress as the measurements are different, NOTE: the waist and hip measurements of the lining are what you should pay attention to. Waist 26” Hips 34”
There is a 3” wide by 11” long kick pleat at the back of the lining. The length measuring from the empire waist to hem is 45 ½”. The lining has a 39” sweep and the hem has horsehair stiffening sewn all the way around.
Measurements; Condition is good vintage for the (under dress) lining, and very good vintage for the overdress its self. The main flaws that I can see are teeny holes in the lining, the majority in the side folds which I’ve tried to show in the photos. There are a number of them. The overdress is nearly flawless except for the afore mentioned gros grain ribbon in the front. Oh yes, the hook part of the hook and eye, is missing. Which was just as well as Allie is a smidgen to big around to do it up and show off the keyhole effect anyway. It comes to you freshly dry cleaned. Sizing: When I measure any clothing items, they are laid flat, so the measurements are of the garment, not a person. In order to be fairly certain that the item of your choice will fit you comfortably, I suggest that you do the same. Choose a similar item that you have in your closet and make it one that you feel very comfortable wearing. Lay it on a flat surface, take the measurements then compare them with the sizing in the description of the item you are interested in purchasing.
Vintage fashions: Unless otherwise stated, all the items of clothing and accessories that are offered for sale are vintage, ranging from the forties through the eighties. Therefore they have had a great former life and unless noted, all are gently worn. I try my best to buy quality and to note flaws however these items are not new and I do not represent them as “new”. They will not look like you just bought them at your local mall. So if a slight mark here, a loose button or a pulled stitch there, bothers you please don’t buy. I want my customers to be very pleased with there purchase.
