Micromosaic Brooch with Floral Border - Circa 1940

This brooch dates from the 1930's - 1940's, It is 1 1/8" x 3/4", and has a floral pattern made up of hundreds of tiny tesserae or tiles. The reverse is brass with a safety pin-like clasp. It is marked Italy.

Older pins, such as this one, have smaller and more numerous tiles than the ones made in the 60's and 70's. This one has no missing tiles. The flower border is also typical of older brooches, and rarely found in later mosaic pieces.
