Artist Unknown, Circa 1830

This is one of the most beautiful baby portraits I have ever seen. With her silk dress and fine jewelry the baby obviously came from a wealthy family. She and her lovely kitten look as sweet as can be! The artist was extremely skilled. The portrait came from an estate in Kinderhook, NY. The work is pastel on paper, mounted on cardboard.

CONDITION: VERY good. Color is bright with no fading. There is one small tear on the edge of her right sleeve. There is a fine, barely visible scratch through the cat’s face. A few smudges that are not distracting. I had spacers added between the glass and the paper. I replaced the glass (it was not original) with UV protective glass. I added an acid free cover to the back for protection. Frame has chips consistent with age.

DIMENSIONS: Frame: 21 1/2 inches tall x 18 1/4. Sight: 17 1/4 x 14 1/4.

Item ID: A8
