We want you to feel the same warmth and caring as if you were in our home enjoying coffee and talking antiques!
This is an important piece of Victorian history. This is a black mouning cape, or mantlet, which has been heavily beaded with jet glass beads.
The style of the overpiece is the mantlet and features the most gorgeous jet beads that seem to be everywhere. The shoulders are heavily beaded in the mancheron style, which is similar in design to a matador look which consisted of jet bead fringe cascading from the shoulders, (just like a Spanish Matador).
The condition is quite good for being close to 150 years old. There are a few beads that are loose or missing and a few spots of wear, one on the inside lining and one on the outside. This coat features hook and eye closures, in which they are all intact. Also has the original waist bands with the original hook and eye closure.
Simply put, this is a fantastic piece of Victorian history. If you are able to make small and minor repairs to the beads, you will be rewarded with a phenominal early cape. I have a small bag of beads that were found in the box tucked inside the silver cloth wrap which will also be included.
